Day 10 - Roaming Arizona

Kelly was up early as this is her new “normal” on this trip. I jumped into the shower and had a hot coffee waiting for me on my exit! This retired life is great!

We discussed our options for the day and it was decided that a return to Lake Havasu was in order. A few supplies were needed (a constant on this trip!) and a stop at Hobby Lobby was requested. We also wanted to see the folks at the Bureau of Land Management to get information on camping areas in the state.

Off we went and in 30 minutes we were in the heart of the city. A stop for a few items at the largest Walmart we have ever been in ( Groceries and other pertinent stuff)  then a quick lunch at Subway, which along with pedicures, manicures and hair styling is all available on site!

Next stop was the Bureau of Land Management to get info on dispersed camping etc. The fellow had me download the Trailforks app that depicts what land you are on… private or BLM land. I’ll play around with it over the next few days.

Next on the list was visit to Hobby Lobby. Kelly’s in her glory as I hit the Starbucks lot for free wifi. I uploaded Day 9’s blog and also booked us into Sit B8 at Picacho Peak State Park next Sunday through Wednesday.  We stopped for a photo op of the London Bridge that connects the island with the town.  Just another bridge in my books :-)

Parker Dam
We headed back to our RV to drop all the supplies off, but took in a view of Parker Dam… with California literally a stones throw away. Once on our way we stopped in next door to Buckskin State Park. Our pass allows us to go in so we thought it was worth having a look around. Very nice with more trees but the sites were tighter together. We liked ours better. Next we headed to Parker and then joined HWY 95 southbound towards Quartzite.

We stopped at the Plomosa BLM and met Terry the host. He gave us the lowdown on this particular area that allowed up to 14 days of “free” camping. There are no services and the rules are pretty straight forward. We took a drive through and it looked good with only a few RV’s dispersed through the area. We drove in about 2 miles and found a nice site that we liked. (We will come back tomorrow and if it’s taken there are lots more sites/areas available) I marked “our spot” on the map and we then headed into Quartzite.

In no time we crossed Highway 10 and stopped in at several of the stalls on Kuehn Street. The big RV show was over but we still managed a look in a few rigs… just for fun of course. Numerous booths remained and we wandered around for a bit. We will come back when we have more time.

Next we drove down 95 to the North Tyson Wash & La Posa South LTVA (Long Term Visitor Area) for a look see. These areas provide services for a fee.

Heading home, we stopped at the RC field for a quick look. Nice setup I will say! We then joined 95 northbound and drove into our RV site at 5:30 PM.

A quick social outside in our chairs before the sun set. The rocks seemed to change color constantly as the sun went down. Spectacular once again.

Dinner was chicken stir-fry as we planned tomorrows activities. We will leave late morning with a full load of water and empty holding tanks for the Plomosa dispersed camp grounds (a huge flat area in the desert!)… hey it’s free! We will give our solar system a workout.. sort of. They have good cell service there so contact should be good.

We discovered the park has wi-fi near the office so I am able to post this.
