Day 8 - Bakersfield Birthday Bash

Kelly turned another year older today and she immediately started celebrating with Baileys in her morning coffee!!

We documented a few minor issues we are having with the RV as it is still under a full warranty.  A quick email to Grand Design and it was sorted for our return to B.C.

We headed off to Home Depot, Target and Walmart (all in the same area) for some items….  screws for a window trim repair, juicer for orange processing and some Diesel Exhaust Fluid for the truck.  We also fueled up as we depart for Arizona in the morning.

Once back at he RV, Kelly went to town on the juicer and made a gallon of orange juice! She froze it in smaller packets for later use. I did some truck maintenance with an oil check, washer fluid top up and then I adjusted the 5th Wheel Hitch puck system to ensure a solid fit. After the I-5 etc. I wanted to make sure everything was solid. I also lubricated the hitch and added the 2.5 gallons of DEF to the truck.

Next up was a battery change on one of my propane sensors. Seems as though it loves the electrons. These Mopeka tank sensors work great… when the battery is fresh :-)

We also fixed a piece of window trim that had succumb to the rigours of California Highway driving. It won’t come off now. We celebrated the repair with a nice “orange based” drink in the sunshine.

Dinner was Sous Vide beef seared on the BBQ with potatoes and broccoli salad.  Very good! I did the domestic duties tonight as I let Kelly relax in her chair to do her trip journal… hey it’s her birthday after all!

I finished up the blog and did some trip planning for tomorrow… a two hour haul up Highway 58 to the Barstow Outlets to start then a 3 hour run to the BLM Office in Lake Havasu. From there a 35 minute drive to site #29 at River Island State Park for the next couple days.
