Day 6 - Cache Creek Casino to Orange Grove RV Park, Bakersfield, CA

An early get up for us as we both awoke just before six (see a trend here?) A quick escape was hatched and in short order we had the bed made, slides in, hooked up and away at 06:45. We had a good time last night and would highly recommend a casino stop here. The drive in was very scenic as well.
Leaving the Casino this morning,
We headed off to join the I-5 just north of Sacramento and easily found the highway. Unfortunately the fog was very thick and I felt I was doing an ILS approach for two hours! Hey I am retired!!
We worked our way down through Sacramento and after about two hours the fog finally broke and we enjoyed a mind numbing drive down the I-5.

After both a rest and fuel stop, (and a call to my brother Kevin in Alberta) we pushed through and arrived in Bakersfield at 1 o’clock. We will take a different route home I think… Hwy 99 maybe?

The Orange Grove RV Park has a wash area so the first thing we did after check in was reposition to that location. I grabbed the brush, soap and hose which I had prepared in advance :-) and Kelly and I proceeded to give the RV a much needed bath. (I’ll do the truck tomorrow)

Bath time!
We then moved into our campsite among the orange trees. We were told to take as many oranges as we like!  Once set up (and changed into shorts!) we headed off to find some groceries (vegetables etc) for our next few dinners. After a couple stops we returned and enjoyed the last of the sun in our lounge chairs. It was all very nice.
Fresh fruit & vegetables
Enjoying the evening sun.
Dinner consisted of BBQ lamb chops with baked potato & a fresh garden salad…. Avocado’s are 50 cents each here!!
Sunset in Bakersfield
Dishes were done and it was time for a walk around the grounds.  We then finished up the day with some TV and completing the blog.  Tomorrow’s plan is a stop at Costco for some items then explore a few quilting shops.

Weather was great today with highs of 23C.  It was glorious! Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not looking too good as a cold front is going to sweep through Sunday night and slowly dissipate over the following days. It will bring strong winds, rain and snow showers to the east of Bakersfield and the Tehachapi pass. We may just stay an additional day to avoid any issues heading up onto the Mojave desert. BTW Rush is the name of a band :-)

  2. 99 is a nice drive around all,the hubbub and you miss the grapevine if you head a bit East and go through Barstow
