Day 27 - Word of the day is... “Rain”

The rains started just before 3 a.m. this morning and have varied between light and heavy through out the morning hours and into the afternoon. A meeting of the hardy pilots took place around 8 a.m. with a noon “reassessment window” in mind.

Pilots wandering in ever widening circles!
Rain... lots of it.
With the break in action, I decided to get the truck's oil changed. A quick search on google and I had a Ford Quicklane about 10 minutes away. A phone call and I could get in pretty much right away for the one hour service.

Off I went and on arrival, they took the truck in right away. A nice service center with big screen TV's, wireless internet access, coffee & doughnuts... this made the wait go by pretty quickly.

A quick stop at the world's largest Fry's store (yes it has a bar!!)...
Ok Ok I'll do the shopping from now on!!
...... and then a short drive in moderate rain to the RV. Kelly said the power went out so I went off to investigate. The batteries were at 80% but no AC from the inverter. I decided to check the connections and found some water in the plug outside the RV. A quick check of the GFI on the inverter (it had tripped) and that was the problem. I dried out the connection and then wrapped it on a zippy bag. Reset the GFI and presto, the AC returned to the RV as designed :-)

Well as expected, the noon meeting was rained out :-)

It is still falling at 13:00 and the radar/weather reports show possible clearing later today but I suspect it will be only some practice if at all.

Kelly was surfing the Lost Dutchman State Park website and a huge pull-through with power and water just came available. A very quick call to the park folks had us moved over in no time....  so that extra data she bought paid off!! Site 87 awaits us tomorrow afternoon.

Score!!
Around 16:30 the weather turned nice and a few of us braved the strong winds. Bill Wallace, Dan Underkofler and myself hit the skies for a few practice rounds. For my last practice flight, I had Gary McLellen call the first four maneuvers of F-21 a couple times... hey it's a start! This is the Final's program for FAI until the end of 2021 and I might just bite off this schedule in Hemet?? Not sure?

Yes that is natural sunlight!!

We have been in touch with Pat & Hartley Hughson as their new "digs" arrived at the lot today. We are very excited for them.
Delivered... finally
Dinner was BBQ Lamb Chops with roast potatoes and carrots... all very good! Some TV and ice cream topped off the day.
